Welcome to Birch & Blue Ragdolls
We are a small, in-home, cage-free Ragdoll cattery established in 2025. We are located right across the Hudson River from New York City in a small town called North Arlington, New Jersey. Our story began a few years ago with one very special cat- our first Ragdoll, Milo. From the moment he joined our family, we knew he was unlike any cat we had ever met. From the moment we got him, he had such a gentle temperament, striking intelligence, and endless personality. Milo very quickly became my and my partner’s first “baby.” We brought him with us everywhere we could. He has come to love going on car rides and hangs out the window like a dog. He grew into such a confident, cuddly, and affectionate companion who will always hold a special place in our hearts,
Inspired by the love Milo brought into our lives, we set out to share that same experience with others by raising Ragdoll kittens who are every bit as loving, confident, and special. At Birch & Blue Ragdolls, our cats are cherished members of our family. They live freely in our home, never in cages, and are spoiled daily with affection, playtime, and one-on-one attention.
We take pride in caring for our cats in the best way possible, from providing plenty of enrichment to feeding them a homemade diet of cooked meats and organs, balanced with supplements and oils. This diet, along with a loving, stress-free environment, helps ensure our kittens grow up healthy, strong, well-socialized, and brimming with personality.
Every kitten we raise is given the same dedication and love as our own pets. From their very first days, they are pet, handled, socialized, and introduced to everyday household life so that by the time they leave for their forever homes, they are confident, affectionate, and ready to be part of a family.
For us, breeding Ragdolls is not just a hobby. It’s a passion rooted in love, care, and an unwavering commitment to producing the best kittens that we are proud to call ours. Our goal is to help you find your perfect match here at Birch & Blue Ragdolls.
Our breeding program is highly selective. All of our Ragdolls come from exceptional overseas bloodlines,
giving the kittens from our cattery a beautifully unique look not commonly seen in catteries here in the States. We are incredibly proud of this distinction and put a ton of thought and care into choosing the best cats to add to our program — focusing on both health and the classic, stunning, fluffy Ragdoll appearance we absolutely adore.
Ragdolls are truly one of a kind. With their striking blue eyes, soft, plush coats, and calm, gentle personalities, it’s no wonder they’ve earned a reputation as one of the most beautiful and affectionate breeds in the world. Ragdolls are known for their loyalty and people-oriented nature and are often called “puppy-like” cats. They usually follow you from room to room, greet you at the door, and often flop into your arms when you pick them up. They’re as happy snuggling on the couch as they are playing, making them the perfect fit for families, singles, and anyone looking for a loving companion. They have a special way of forming deep bonds with their humans. They thrive on attention, adapt well to home life, and bring an unmatched sense of calm and love into the household.
At our cattery, we know that health and temperament are just as important as beauty. Every one of our breeding cats undergoes extensive genetic testing through Optimal Selection™ Feline, one of the most comprehensive tests available for breeders. This at-home swab test screens for over 45 genetic health conditions, more than 25 physical traits, identifies blood type, and provides valuable insights into genetic diversity. This allows us to make informed breeding decisions that go far beyond what traditional pedigree analysis can offer. This ensure we can offer strong, healthy kittens for generations to come.
In addition to Optimal Selection testing, all of our breeding cats are negative for HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy), PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease), FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus), and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). We’re committed to producing kittens that not only meet the Ragdoll breed standard but also give their future families the peace of mind that comes with knowing their kitten has been bred with care, health, and love in mind.
We are dedicating to preserving the traditional Ragdoll breed. We do not breed minks, sepias, or solid patterns. We also do not breed all white or cinnamon colors. All of these colors and patterns are not recognized in TICA as a standard Ragdoll.
While we’re based in North Arlington, New Jersey, we understand that our kittens sometimes need to travel to reach their new families and we work hard to make that process as stress-free as possible. We’re very flexible and happy to discuss the best option for your situation.
Depending on your location and situation, we may be able to:
- Welcome you into our home to pick up your kitten in person
- Meet you at Newark International Airport (EWR) for convenient travel arrangements
- Meet you halfway for an in-person handoff
If you’re further away, we sometimes offer personal delivery service ourselves for a fee, where we drive to you ourselves to drop off your kitten to your home. When that isn’t possible, we work closely with a small network of trusted pet transport drivers who can hand-deliver your kitten directly to you. Our goal is always the same — to ensure your new family member arrives safely, comfortably, and ready to begin their new life with you. As such, we send every one of our kittens home with a Kitty Take Home Goody Bag which includes a blanket that smells like mom, toys, a collar, a treat, a small batch of their homemade food, and their medical paperwork.
Once you reserve a kitten, we’ll send you our Kitten Guide Pamphlet. This is a helpful resource we’ve typed up to make the transition of y our kitten into their new home as smooth as possible. Inside, you’ll find our feeding recommendations, litter box setup advice, the type of litter we use, and plenty of tips and tricks we’ve learned over the years. It’s designed to answer common questions, ease any worries, and help you feel confident as you welcome your new Ragdoll into your family.
When you adopt a kitten from us, you become part of our extended family and that bond doesn’t end when your kitten goes home. Whether you’re on our waitlist or already cuddling your new Ragdoll, you’ll always have a direct line to us. Every family who reserves or adopts a kitten receives my personal phone number and is welcome to reach out anytime. Whether it’s a quick question about food, litter, health, or simply to share an update and a photo, I am more than happy to hear from you. We absolutely love receiving photos and videos of our kittens after they’ve gone home to see how much they change as they age!
